A plot of 6,158 specimens databased as of July 2007 (plot generated in DIVA-GIS). Blue circles are from the General Collection (3,408 specimens), red circles are from the recently completed Mary Emma Groff Collection (2,750 specimens).

Herbarium Holdings (as of July 2007)

Efforts to database and map all specimens are ongoing. Currently, specimen data are from our General Collection and the recently completed Marry Emma Groff Herbarium, the latter being a collection of exquisitely mounted specimens from ca. 1930-1970.

Preliminary Breakdown by US State and PA County

Based on an analysis executed by the Spring 2007 Methods in Systematics class,
the majority of the species represented in the herbarium are from PA (about half of PA's 3,400 species and subspecific taxa are represented), followed by VA, NJ, CO, MD, and FL. This clearly reflects a collection bias, since most collections also are from these states. (see below)

Within PA, most of our collections are from Lancaster County (nearly half), followed by York (4%), Union (2%), Armstrong (2%), and Dauphin (<2%) counties. (see below)

Taxon Reports from Plant Systematics (BIOL 325 & 625)

Below are links to taxon reports and maps for these specimens, prepared by students of Plant Systematics (BIOL 325 & 625). The list of plant families below follows the APG II classification system, with the exception of Aceraceae (Angiosperm Phylogeny Group, 2001). Those that appear as hypertext have been databased and the link will take you to reports and maps.
